Reflections on my group project

Currently I am frustrated with my group project. Originally, our topic was How do you create a multi-cultural lesson, class, and/or curriculum in your arts discipline? What would it look like? And what resources would you need? We thought that this was an important topic because education needs to reflect everyone and not just a selective group of people. Multi-cultural education allows underrepresented and/or non-represented groups to have a voice and visibility within our educational system. Somehow our topic has evolved into something else that does not address this issue. I think people do not fully understand what multi-cultural education entails and/or realize the importance of it within school curriculum. I now realize that I am going to have to be the advocate and educator for multi-cultural education, which I have no problem doing. What I do have a problem with is future educators not realizing the need for multi-cultural education within schools. Without multi-cultural education we, as educators, will continue to implement a bias and oppressive curriculum onto our students.

Literacy Education & Dance

Dance Literacy is important for a variety of reasons:
  1. Provides students with motivation to read and learn
  2. Dance can collaborate with academic subjects to reinforce educational concepts by presenting them in a new format
  3. "Families who want their children to learn to think, and excel in school and life, can look toward the arts for plenty of opportunities to do just that." - Crayola
The internet can be a vital source for educators who want to implement dance literacy. There are a number of websites that address the topic. There are a number of articles available online which teachers can consult. I also found a few websites that have videos of actual dance literacy lessons. Educators can also use the internet to search for various organizations that specialize in Arts Literacy.
