Literacy Education & Dance

Dance Literacy is important for a variety of reasons:
  1. Provides students with motivation to read and learn
  2. Dance can collaborate with academic subjects to reinforce educational concepts by presenting them in a new format
  3. "Families who want their children to learn to think, and excel in school and life, can look toward the arts for plenty of opportunities to do just that." - Crayola
The internet can be a vital source for educators who want to implement dance literacy. There are a number of websites that address the topic. There are a number of articles available online which teachers can consult. I also found a few websites that have videos of actual dance literacy lessons. Educators can also use the internet to search for various organizations that specialize in Arts Literacy.

I have to agree with you. Throughout this class I have come to realize what a useful resource the internet and overall technology can be as an aid for educators in the arts. As a catalyst for the emphasis of other subject areas, the combination of dance an technology can increase the ways in which children learn and often times provide them with another way of understanding key concepts which works for their comprehension best.

Yea Jess,

Technology is such a huge aspect of our daily lives. Most of us our helpless without it yet we somehow forget to include it in our curriculum. So this is something I look forward to incorporating.

Hey babe!
So..I totally know what you mean about the journals! I guess I have been veering to the side of either not checking it at all and just letting them have their private space to vent and feel safe to write whatever thoughts..... or just giving a check mark and not really looking at it but just making sure there are entries....I always give them the last 5-10 minutes of their modern class to write so...being there to kind of watch them in a nonobtrusive way is another tool I have found effective too!!! xoxoxox
